From Exhausted to Empowered: The Daily Routine That Changed My Life

For a long time after treatment ended, I felt like I was moving through fog.

Not just physically tired—but emotionally drained, mentally scattered, and spiritually flat. And here’s the thing: everyone around me assumed I was “doing great.” I looked fine. I was technically “done.” I was working again. I was handling commuting, my job, my three teen daughters, busy weekends, etc. But inside? I was crawling.

I craved structure, but didn’t want pressure. I needed nourishment, but didn’t want another strict plan and after doing hours of research I knew that plant based eating was the way to go. I wanted to feel strong, stable and centered again—but I didn’t know where to begin.

The shift didn’t happen overnight. But what did change everything was building a gentle, non-negotiable rhythm—a daily routine that brought me back to life, one small step at a time.

The Power of Rhythmic Healing

When we talk about healing, we often focus on big changes: A total diet overhaul. A major fitness goal. A new morning routine with 17 steps. Ha! Try being a normal, busy woman in today’s times and some of these suggested routines are enough for a mental breakdown!

But real healing—the kind that sticks—usually comes through rhythm. Not rigidity. Not rules. Rhythm.

What your body, mind, and spirit are asking for is safety. Predictability. Anchors throughout your day that tell your nervous system: You’re safe here. You’re supported. You’re allowed to heal and it’s safe to move forward.

My Daily Afterglow Routine (And Why It Works)

Here’s a look at the core rhythm I still follow most days—not because I have to, but because it feels like home to my nervous system:

☀️ MORNING: Calm Before the World

  • Wake slowly + hydrate – A full glass of water with lemon before anything else

  • Morning Moment – 10 minutes of journaling, meditation, EFT tapping or just breathing deep breathes

  • Nourish early – A protein-rich breakfast with greens and berries (this made a huge difference in energy and blood sugar regulation!)

  • Movement check-in – Do I need a walk? To go to the gym? Pick up weights? Gentle yoga? A rest day?

Why it works: This morning rhythm grounds me before the chaos. It puts ME first and regulates me for the day. It prioritizes blood sugar, gut health, nervous system calm, and intention.

🕒 MIDDAY: Energy Alignment

  • Mid-morning tea break – I pause mid-workday to stretch and sip something warm

  • Anti-inflammatory lunch – Think lentils, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, tahini drizzle - plant based powerhouse choices keeps my energy high for the day

  • Rest reset – 5–10 minutes with no screen, no sound, no effort - either sitting comfortably, lying flat or even sitting outside under the sun

Why it works: These are mini pattern interrupts to remind my body it’s not in a race. That I’m allowed to rest and refuel without guilt.

🌙 EVENING: Shut Down to Power Up

  • Digital wind-down – Screens off at least 30 minutes before bed. An hour is better!

  • Evening nourishment – Light dinner, often a veggie soup or warm grain bowl

  • The candle ritual – I light a candle, take a breath, and say out loud: “That’s enough for today.”

  • Gratitude pause – I jot down one thing I’m proud of or grateful for

Why it works: Healing happens at night. But only when we allow ourselves to downshift. These rituals cue my body that the “doing” is done—and now it’s time to restore.

You don’t need to copy my exact routine. You just need to start noticing:

✨ What energizes you (and what drains you)?
✨ When do you feel most grounded in your day?
✨ Where could you add 10 minutes of nourishment or stillness?

Try This Exercise: "Design Your Gentle Day"

Take 15 minutes and sketch out what a gentle but empowered day looks like for you. Ask yourself:

  • What are three non-negotiables that would support my healing?

  • Where can I build in a pause, a ritual, or a nourishment cue?

  • What’s one thing I could release to make space for rest or rhythm?
